Captiva has always held a tender place in my heart. It’s one of those rare corners of the world where time slows down and the ocean feels like it’s speaking directly to you. After the hurricanes swept through, the island was deeply affected. It’s a small, tightly knit community—one where you recognize the faces behind every little shop and café, where the stories feel personal because they are.
I source the shells for Saltwater Heirloom from these very local businesses, from people whose lives are intimately tied to the sea. On my last visit, I met a woman selling shells out of a small makeshift stand. She had lost her home in the storm and was collecting and selling what the ocean gave back—one shell at a time—as a way to slowly rebuild her life. I’ll never forget her. She held each shell like it mattered, and in that moment, I knew: this collection isn’t just about jewelry—it’s about resilience, love, and memory.
Every piece holds a fragment of that story. Every shell carries a past, a place, and a person.
